Borneo – Rainforest trekking, wildlife and mountain climbing

In 2005 I travelled to Borneo. I first flew into Miri where I met up with the rest of the group. The next morning took a flight out to the Mulu National Park. We spent a day here before starting a 4 day rainforest trek, first by boat down the river and then on foot to Camp 5 where we spent 2 nights. On the intervening day we climbed up the peak behind the camp to view the limestone pinnacles. This was a strenuous and steep climb in very hot and humid conditions.

The next day we trekked out but our boat failed to meet us at the end and we ended up with an unscheduled stop at a forest ranger post. The following day we took a boat down river to Limbang, stopping off to visit a village longhouse. After a welcome overnight in a hotel we took a river bus to Labuang and then a further boat up the coast to Kota Kinabalu. The next morning we took an early flight across to Sandakan where we travelled on to a refuge for Orangutan and then on to the nature reserve at the River Kinabatangan. After a couple of nights there, we travelled on to Mount Kinabalu which we climbed the following day, spending a night at the high hut and then descending the following day and then travelling back to Kota Kinabalu. After final day there it was back home to the UK
